Wild Fire That Gets Out of Control

I remember applying the Forest Fire Technique when I started my first business. When I came out of the army, I was 22 years old and made my first  US$100,000 profit within the first three months of business. I was always walking around with stacks of US hundred dollars bills in my right and left pocket.

It was such a great success at that time, I used the same principle as what I am using in the recruitment industry, and the result was simply astounding!

Here’s the logic of the forest fire technique: when I helped one candidate find a great job at a speed nobody had seen before, he would automatically introduce one or two of his friends to me, and those one or two friends would introduce another one or two friends to me. By the time I accomplished the task, it had gone through so many cycles that I had virtually 100s of people queuing up, wanting me to find jobs for them!

I told myself, holy shiX! I have a problem, even though it’s a “great” problem. I hired more people to help me at zero cost and solved some of the problem of too many people queuing up for a job.

It was a great feeling, assisting them to find a better job. I remember one case in which one of the candidates actually introduced three of her friends in the same company to me, and I managed to find all three of them a great job within one week and you know what happened? The whole department of that company sent their CVs to me! A total of 78 of them! It was like a fire that got totally out of control.

The feeling was positively overwhelming! It felt wonderful when you managed to help someone to find a great job, especially those who had not been able to find a job for a long period of time. And I knew how it felt because I had been there before. It was really difficult back then, very difficult, especially when you had a family to feed.

The ultimate satisfaction and fulfilment of this job is that when I manage to find a job for someone, even though I do not really know them, the peace, happiness, and excitement I feel inside my heart is overwhelming!

One simple trick can make a lot of difference in making it work or not: it is not the big things that make the difference, it is always the small things that create the magic.
